When you’re younger, you can eat what you like, drink what you like, and still climb in to your 26-inch-waist trousers and zip them closed. Then you reach that age- 49, 50- your tolerance gives up, waves a little white flag, and without any warning at all, you’re suddenly writing posts on the internet about rubbish collection. @officialthanetcouncil To say your bin collections were rubbish would be pretty funny if they were not in fact rubbish and considering you are responsible for so much coastline and the bins on Cliftonville esplanade have been overflowing for two days without collection the only thing that is a joke is this councils handling of waste. Please copy and paste and do the same. 2/2 @miatta_fahnbulleh_ @andy.burnham Dear Secretary of State, I am writing to congratulate you on your appointment to the Cabinet, and to urge you to use your new position to hold the line against the expansion of North Sea oil and gas infrastructure. As the former Chief Executive of the New Economics Foundation, you have a deep understanding of why expanding domestic drilling is a flawed economic strategy. Under your previous watch, the NEF rightly highlighted that drilling in the North Sea is short-sighted and that true energy security relies on an accelerated transition away from fossil fuels. Yet, press reports indicate that Prime Minister Andy Burnham is eager to fast-track drilling approvals for the Rosebank and Jackdaw fields as part of a short-term cost-of-living policy blitz. I urge you to use your voice in Cabinet to persuade him against this direction. The realities of these projects entirely contradict the government’s clean energy ambitions. The industry’s own environmental impact assessments show that the massive Jackdaw gas field will directly create a mere 27 full-time operational jobs—fewer people than can fit on the top deck of a London bus. Local communities are watching the oil and gas industry lose 1,000 jobs every single month, while the creation of secure green roles continues to lag dangerously behind. #nonorthseaoilandgas #labour #oil #gas #primeminister
